BIOGRAPHY

Vasil Vasilev was born in 1957 in Zmeyno village in the municipality of town Omurtag (Bulgaria). In 1982 he completed his studies in the art of painting in the “St. Kiril and St. Method” university in Bulgaria´s former capital, Veliko Tarnovo. Additionally, to his activity as a painter, he also creates graphical and sculptural work. Since 2001 he is an official member of the international fond of the Moscow painters.
In the years between 1984 and 2005 most of his paintings were shown in exhibitions across Bulgaria. This period was followed by series of independent exhibitions in Heidelberg, Moscow and the Netherlands. Furthermore, he participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Europe and Canada. Following his regular participation in the international print biennial in Varna (Bulgaria), in which he presented his work in ten of its editions, there were exhibitions in Maastricht, Ljubljana and Bitola (Macedonia) including Vasilev´s paintings. The National Art Gallery in Sofia, the City Art Galleries in Varna and Burgas (Bulgaria) and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow are just few of the art institutions around the globe which are in possession of his work. Furthermore, some of his paintings are included in numerous private collections in Bulgaria, Russia, USA, Spain, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and France.
Also noteworthy is the fact that several well renowned people such as the world-famous director Wim Wenders and Dr. Vladimir Alexandrovich Lisitchkin are admirers of his work and own paintings by Vasilev.
Vasil Vasilev currently lives and works in Varna (Bulgaria).
