Bulgarian contemporary painter Vasil Nikolaev Vasilev was born in 1957 in Zmeyno village, Omurtag municipality, Bulgaria.

In 1982, he completed his studies in painting at the “St. Kiril and St. Method” University in Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of Bulgaria.

Alongside painting, he creates graphic art and sculptures.

Since 2001, he has been an official member of the International Fund of Moscow Painters.

Between 1984 and 2005, he presented most of his paintings in exhibitions across Bulgaria.

After that, he held solo exhibitions in Heidelberg, Moscow, and the Netherlands. also took part in numerous group exhibitions in Europe and Canada.

Vasilev regularly participated in the International Print Biennial in Varna, Bulgaria, presenting his work in ten editions. He also showcased his paintings in Maastricht, Ljubljana, and Bitola, Macedonia.

Prestigious art institutions such as the National Art Gallery in Sofia, the City Art Galleries in Varna and Burgas, and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow include his works in their collections.

Many private collectors in Bulgaria, Russia, the USA, Spain, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and France also own his paintings. World-renowned figures, including film director Wim Wenders and Dr. Vladimir Alexandrovich Lisitsyn, have acquired his works.

Vasil Vasilev currently lives and works in Varna, Bulgaria.
